Slow pitch jigging is a newer technique and with a lot of companies entering this space, it can be difficult to choose the correct tackle for the job. Our pro staff is here to help. We’ve pair a Nomad Design slow pitch jigging rod with an Accurate Valiant SPJ reel that go very well together.
The Nomad Design slow pitch jigging rods are made from Japanese 30 tonne Toray carbon fiber, giving you the strong and lightweight rod. The blank construction also feature a taper, resulting in a slimmer and more responsive tip section to help you get the action you want to your jig.
The Accurate Valiant SPJ reels are designed and made in USA. These are specifically designed for slow pitch jigging; the company listened to inputs from expert fishermen to make some very nice specialization for slow pitch jigging from their regular Valiant line of reels. They removed the clicker and optimized their reel design to lighten it. They also added a longer power handle arm with ergonomic grip to reduce fatigue from cranking. You’ll also appreciate the high gear ratio of 6:1, helping to make it faster to reel in your catch from the bottom. This gives you a very comfortable 9.9 oz reel with 23 lb of drag.
If you’re willing to sacrifice a little bit of extra weight for more power and control, we also offer the combo with the two speed Valiant SPJ reels. For about an extra 4.4 oz of weight, you’ll get 26 lb of drag and the low gear with a ratio of 3:1 for that extra power in case you need it. Either way you go, you’ll looking at a solid rod/reel pair for slow pitch jigging. The light and responsive Nomad Design rod pair very well with the Valiant SPJ to give you a lot of control over the action of your jig.
