It’s no surprise that Daiwa has some great tackle for slow pitch jigging, as the company is from the country where the technique was developed. Our pro staff has combined their Daiwa Harrier Slow Pitch Jigging rod with a Daiwa Saltist star drag reel to give you an amazing rod/reel combo for slow pitch jigging.
The Daiwa Saltist star drag reels feature a 6.4:1 gear ratio to help you pull up from the bottom faster, which you’ll appreciate after all the motions you’ll have to do to mimic that injured fish and get a bite. Another great feature of these reels for SPJ is their high retrieve per crank. The Saltist 15H has 39.5″ of retrieve per crank, and the Saltist 35H has 47.4″. This helps you get the slack out of your line quicker, making it easier to give your jig the action you want.
The Harrier Slow Pitch Jigging rod is designed for this very active style of fishing, being made with High Volume Fiber (HVF) NANOPLUS® Construction which gives it a much lighter weight, helping to prevent you from tiring out. Don’t let the light weight fool you though, as these rods are also very strong from the HVF carbon fiber compound. The thin profile blank, with a smaller diameter, delivers a sharp action and serves to better control the jig. The X-45 Bias Construction has greater strength and prevents twisting and ovalization. The unique EVA split grip is ideal for jigging. Lastly, the Fuji FazLite K-Guides are virtually tangle free and leave a minimal footprint on the bend of the rod.
